Active Image  Mercy Corps Georgia in partnership with Caucasus Environmental NGO Network (CENN) has started implementation of the Enhancing local capacity and regional cooperation for climate change adaptation and biodiversity conservation in Georgia and the South Caucasus program funded by European Commission. 

The overall objective of this program is to build the capacity of local authorities, improve communities’ capacity and enhance regional bilateral cooperation, to understand and to cope with the environmental, social and economic impacts of climate change in the South Caucasus.

The program targets the following Regions: Samtskhe-Javakheti, Kvemo Kartli and Kakheti in Georgia; Lori-Marz in Armenia and Agsafa, Tovus, Shamkir and Samukh Rayons in Azerbaijan.

Alliances Samtskhe Javakheti: Mercy Corps has over nine years of experience improving the potential of rural communities in Georgia. Currently Mercy Corps is implementing the Alliances program in Adigeni, Aspindza and Akhaltsikhe municipalities of Samtskhe-Javakheti region with financial support of Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). Alliances Kvemo Kartli: Run and structured using the M4P Making Markets Work for the Poor Approach funded by the Swiss Agency  for Development and Cooperation (SDC) partnering with local NGO’s; ICCN on, gender, ethnicity, governance & DRR and IAAD on livestock.
Where:  Georgia: Kvemo Kartli:  in the municipalities Dmanisi, Tsalka and Tetritskaro
Who:  Small Scale Livestock Producers (SSLP’s) the poor, as identified in our Focus Group Survey as people owning 5 or fewer female cattle and/or 40 or fewer female sheep and generally earning under 350GEL/month.

An EU funded Akhalkalaki Social and Marketing Linkages (Integrated Poverty Reduction Programme - IPRP) is implemented by Mercy Corps in rural communities in the Akhalkalaki District of Samtshkhe-Javakheti region in 2005-2008.

Mercy Corps is an international non-governmental organization with operations in over 30 countries worldwide. Mercy Corps will implement IPRP in partnership with the following three local non-governmental organizations: the Association of Business Consulting Organisations of Georgia (ABCO), the International Centre on Conflict and Negotiation (ICNN), and the International Association of Agricultural Development (IAAD).
